Def Squad is a rap supergroup consisting of Erick Sermon, Redman and Keith Murray. Jamal is considered an honorary member of the Def Squad. Before officially forming as a group to release an album in 1998, they had each been featured on tracks by each other. The Def Squad was formed following the disbandment of the Hit Squad, who broke up after the struggles between EPMD members Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith. They are known for their remake of "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang.

El Niño is the debut album from Def Squad. It reached on The Billboard 200. The CD was released as a promotional Package including a "Survival Of the Illest 3" disc, a mixtape featuring Method Man and Redman hosting. The song "Ride Wit Us" later appeared on Keith Murray's third album It's a Beautiful Thing. Studio album by. Def Squad. El Niño may also refer to: El Niño (Def Squad album). El Niño (oratorio), by American composer John Adams. El Niño (Eldritch album). El Niño, a race car in the video game Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit.

Too bad skits also run rampant. Fortunately, El Nino meets most listeners expectations, albeit in a fashion that seems a bit workman-like. With production split between Redman for skits and Erick Sermon for regular songs, El Nino grooves mostly because of its evenness. Erick Sermon’s beats have this sort of chill, laid back feel, laying down chunky bass loops and clomping drums, often aided with samples of older hip hop of influence to Erick Sermon.

El Niño is the only album from hip hop supergroup Def Squad. The three Def Squad members, Redman, Erick Sermon and Keith Murray, released this album on June 30, 1998 to positive critical and commercial feedback. The album is now out of print. It reached on The Billboard 200 and had one single, "Full Cooperation". La Niña", chosen as the 'opposite' of El Niño, literally translates to "the girl child".
