Elvis is the eighteenth studio album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, released in July 1973. It sold over 1 million copies worldwide (despite being released soon after the much more successful Aloha from Hawaii). To differentiate it from his eponymous 1956 release it is sometimes called The "Fool" Album, after its first track. In the US "Fool" was issued as the B-side of "Steamroller Blues" from the Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite album

Those rockabilly revivals find Presley game and loose, as does a nimble version of the Statler Brothers' "Susan When She Tried"; the trio of orchestrated ballads (Don McLean's "And I Love You So," Jerry Chesnut's "Woman Without Love," Troy Seals' "Pieces of My Life") give Elvis an opportunity to find a moving heart beating underneath the shine, a skill.

Elvis Presley proved that a rock album could not only sell, as teenagers generally only invested in '45s in those days, but it could outsell the singles from its own and any other genre. More importantly, though the correlation is hardly incidental, it established a degree of vocal primacy on a genre not yet blessed with a number of great singers.

Fontana tells Rolling Stone, reflecting on the 1968 television special that relaunched Presley’s career. We played a couple of songs, and it got loose after a while, and it turned out fine. re-announcing himself as a performer – that Presley was sold. Binder and Howe decided the special should tell the story of Presley’s life in music through the lyrics he sang, beginning with the chucka-chucka rhythms of Jerry Reed’s Guitar Man (later paired with Trouble ) and showing how singing had delivered a sometime truck driver to stardom. They wanted it to end with Elvis singing a current hit, possibly MacArthur Park, though Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker was still hoping for it to end with a Christmas song.
