Kismet (subtitled A Jazz Interpretation by the Mastersounds) is an album by The Mastersounds led by vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery with pianist Richie Crabtree, bassist Monk Montgomery and drummer Benny Barth along with guitarist Wes Montgomery featuring performances of tunes originally composed by Alexander Borodin and adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest for the musical Kismet recorded in 1958 and released on the World Pacific label.

Yes, it's true that the Mastersounds are largely forgotten now partly because they were overshadowed by the identically configured (and hugely successful) Modern Jazz Quartet. But they are also forgotten because, as an ensemble, they were pretty forgettable - skilled, tasteful, and pleasant to listen to without a doubt, but there was nothing about them that really grabbed you by the collar and forced you to listen carefully and remember what you heard. If anything, the quartet's gentle sound invited you to relax and think about other things while they played.
