Times New Viking, Psychedelic Horseshit - Split ‎(7", EP, Ltd). Really High DIY No 2 (Album, Comp).

Present The Paisley Reich (Album).

us Psychedelic Horseshit. As the legend has it, the band unexpectedly went over with the nuevo-hippie audience, and the name stuck. While Whitehurst (guitar, keyboards, and vocals) and his musical partner Rich Johnston (percussion) don't sound psychedelic, at least in the traditional sense, the rich, organic funk of the second part of their name hits home, as the band conjures a sound that recalls the early lo-fi experiment of Pavement, the arch and angular attack of the Fall, and the noisy joie. de vivre of their friends and Siltbreeze labelmates Times New Viking  . The single's first pressing sold out quickly, and in mid-2007 a five-song vinyl EP, New Wave Hippies, hit stores. A few months later, Psychedelic Horseshit's first full-length album, Magic Flowers Droned, was released by Siltbreeze. Bassist Jason Roxas appeared on several of the group's early recordings, but in 2008 the group announced it was looking for a new bass player.

Psychedelic Horseshit (1 Albums, 11 Tracks). TAGGED AS: psychedelic horseshit. Considered by the Columbus, OH, cognoscenti as the "little brother band" (Stooges-style) to Times New Viking (MC5-style), Psychedelic Horseshit first came about as three buds determined to crash a hippie fest and jam retardo. When asked for their name, singer/guitarist Matt Whitehurst replied, "Just call us Psychedelic Horseshit. The band killed, the name stuck, and thus the die was ignominiously cast  . To me Psychedelic Horseshit’s new album Magic Drone Flowers (Stiltbreeze) sounds like when my mom told me to do chores on a Saturday afternoon while she was listening to her old records: a mixture of Bob Dylan and me running over rocks to break the lawn mower so I wouldn’t have to cut the grass again. Or putting a fork in the dishwasher so it would break. Or vacuuming up broken lightbulbs. During my drunken interview with Matt we talked about the new album, fighting with Deerhunter, philosophy, protesting, and how the Black Lips live album was in fact recorded in the studio  . WF-Well on the split 7 inch you did with Times New Viking, you said I am not a man. I have no soul. I don’t care about politics and things I can’t control.

Boundary-pushing, thrilling, unique: Psychedelic Horseshit blaze with a vitality reminiscent of FatCat alumni Animal Collective and Black Dice in those bands' early, wildly creative incipience. Laced marks a forward stylistic shift for the band, delivering a coherent set of bustling, hookladen, melted outsider pop songs. Keeping a step ahead of the lo-fi scene they christened. Wrong album? Let us know. Expand player Collapse player. Psychedelic Horseshit. For a limited time only. Although every Times New Viking release to date has sported at least one truly knockout tune, the highs here might be the band's most dizzying yet. There's shitgaze anthem "No Time, No Hope", one of the year's catchiest bumouts- a little organ-driven fury propelled by Beth Murphy and Adam Elliott's weirdly complimentary vocals and a burst of pure energy. Now would've been a pretty good time for Times New Viking to crank out a mess of beery bouncers or thinly-veiled Clean covers and let that Matador money roll in. But that's pretty much exactly what Born Again Revisited isn't. Instead, we've got yet another standoffishly catchy, completely uncompromising bit of burnout ephemera from a band that predates a revived trend I'm certain they feel themselves outside of.

Danheim - Herja (Full Album 2018) - Viking War Songs. Times New Viking, Live at the Andy Warhol Museum. Times New Viking performing " New Times, New Hope. Times New Viking have been noted for their lo-fi aesthetic, recorded to cassette, which drew comparisons to Guided by Voices' early material. This also meant they were considered part of the "shitgaze" genre, alongside contemporaries such as Psychedelic Horseshit and Eat Skull. Notable features of their songs include shouted vocals, distorted drums and loud, trebly guitars in addition to tape hiss and brevity. The tracks on Rip Off were mastered to a RMS -db value of 0 (or near to) making them comparatively as loud as possible. Their lyrics are generally sloganistic and feature.
