Steve Lawrence is in fine voice and is up to the challenges of the music. Although he has been around for decades, Mr. Lawrence sounds as if he still has another decade of first-rate singing in him. I hate to make comparisons, but, in all honesty, Steve Lawrence does not wring everything out of a song that Sinatra could. Sinatra charts, Sinatra arrangements only make him sound more complete as an artist. One can only hope he will choose to do some live concerts.

King also released his first album, Steve Lawrence, in 1953. In July of that year, he was hired to sing on a local television talk show, Tonight!, hosted by Steve Allen. Lawrence was still a regular on the show on September 27, 1954, when it moved to national broadcast five nights a week in the 11:30 . slot on NBC, giving him much broader exposure. They also recorded and released their first full-length duet LP, We Got Us, for ABC-Paramount. They always made sure to be on the same record label. The title track won them the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group. Golden Rainbow opened on February 4, 1968, for a run of 385 performances, concluding on January 12, 1969. The original Broadway cast album was released on Calendar, for which Lawrence and Gorme also made singles in 1968, but by the end of the year they had switched to RCA Victor Records.
