In 1985 Jackdaw with Crowbar pioneered a technique of projecting several layers of 8mm film onto live musicians. The set varied from post punk to dub to eastern jazz with influences like Captain Beefheart, Lee Perry, The Residents and Wire. The films would sometimes lead the music or visa versa often mocking the politics of the day and distorting reality whilst the music always ahead of the times treading unexplored territories with homemade instruments and re purposed analogue technology.

The songs that appeared on their 1988 "Hot Air" album are indeed inferior to the versions from these sessions, as always is the case

Jackdaw with Crowbar.
