The Brandenburg Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046–1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier). They are widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era.

I have several different versions of these masterpieces in my music collection, both in digital format and on compact disc (CD). They include performances by Boston Baroque, Consortium Musicum, I Musici, three different versions by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and two by Trevor Pinnock with two different orchestras. This MP3 album contains all six Brandenburg Concertos, performed to near perfection by a British ensemble that specializes in playing on period instruments. The OAE delivers brisk and yet polished interpretations of these six Bach concerto grosso masterworks, imbuing each of them with all the elegance and eloquence they deserve.

List of concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach. Johann Sebastian Bach's Violin Concertos, BWV 1041–1043, and his six Brandenburg Concertos survive in their original instrumentation. His harpsichord concertos are mostly adaptations of concertos originally written for other solo instruments. In his early career Bach transcribed concertos by other composers for organ (BWV 592–596) and for harpsichord (BWV 972–987).
His son, Hans Bach, "der Spielmann", is the first professional musician of the family. Of Hans's large family the second son, Christoph, was the grandfather of Sebastian Bach. The Bach family never left Thuringia until the sons of Sebastian went into a more modern world. Through all the misery of the peasantry at the period of the Thirty Years' War this clan maintained its position and produced musicians who, however local their fame, were among the greatest in Europe. Johann Sebastian Bach was baptized at Eisenach on the 23rd of March 1685. His parents died in his tenth year, and his elder brother, Johann Christoph, organist at Ohrdruf, took charge of him and taught him music.
