The raucous Carnegie Hall recordings on the album come from one of the first North American concerts performed by The Kinks after the lift of a four-year ban imposed on the group by the American Federation of Musicians in 1965. The songs on Everybody's In Show-Biz were initially intended to serve as the soundtrack to The Colossal Shirt, a never-realized feature film about The Kinks on the road. Life keeps using me, keeps.

Everybody’s in Showbiz, a double album containing a studio and a live record, is Ray’s first extended look at America. The new songs deal for the most part with touring, and with the difference between Hollywood stereotypes and American reality, the live record comprises hard rock and vaudeville material from recent Kinks albums performed with juiced gusto, high spirits, and occasional rank sloppiness. But the four sides hold together remarkably well, since most of the song situations deal with show business and its facade of tinsel and celluloid. The album is not the homogeneously delightful sort of LP the Kinks were once known for; it has its ups and downs, its lapses and its masterpieces.

Talk about The Kinks - Everybody's In Showbiz

Vrion
This 1/2 studio, 1/2 live album by the Kinks shows the band in transition from their Rock/Americana/Brit period of Lola and Muswell Hillbillies to their more mid 70's rock opera stuff (of which I am not a huge fan). Showbiz finds the Kinks in top form full of wit, humor, and introspection. One could almost consider this their first rock opera album of that aforementioned period. There are lots of songs about the band's crazy uprooted lifestyle as a touring act and has a very vaudeville-type feel to it. It is chalk full of memorable new songs and great rockin' versions of early 70s Kinks with a brass band. After this album, the Kinks went off further down the rock opera rabbit hole and seemed to forget about creating albums that were actually fun to listen to. Everybody's in Showbiz marks the end of the classic 70s era for this Kinks fan. A highly recommended album.
