Norma Cecilia Tanega (born January 30, 1939) is an American folk and pop singer-songwriter, painter, and experimental musician. In the 1960s she had a hit with the single "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" and wrote songs for Dusty Springfield and other prominent musicians. In recent decades Tanega has worked mostly as a percussionist, playing various styles of music in the bands Baboonz, hybridVigor, and Ceramic Ensemble.

Me and my cat named Dog We're walking high against the fog Singing my song Singing my song. Happy, sad and crazy, wonder Choking up my mind with perpetual dreaming. Dog is a good old cat Now people what d'ya think of that 'Cause that's where I'm at (That's where he's at).

Tanega's rare debut album, reissued in 1998 on CD, isn't bad, though it's not a major effort, and seems like it could have benefited from more polish in the vocal department especially. Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" is here, of course, and the only track virtually any listener would know. Many of the cuts have a peculiar, if only in retrospect, blend of folky guitar and harmonica with full New York pop-rock-soul arrangements. Some of the cuts are on or above the level of "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" musically, if lacking the attention-getting lyrical hook of that song's title. You're Dead," for instance, is fairly gutsy, moody folk-pop, while "A Street That Rhymes at 6 AM" is probably the cut that would have been most likely to follow up "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" with its rather AM-savvy tune. In fact, it was the follow-up, but was not a hi.

Yes she did release one blindingly good album in the mid-60s and then disappear and yes she is 80 so any hope of a comeback tour is mostly out of the question but in my opinion she was/could have been one of the greatest folk singers of the 1960s. Her album Walkin’ My Cat Named Dog is full of rich lyrics and melodies, her voice is hypnotic. I put it on when I’m going to sleep, I put it on when I’m eating dinner, I listen to her whenever I remember to do so. It’s not fair to simply remember her as Dusty Springfield’s ex-partner.

The A Dog Named "Dog" trope as used in popular culture. In the song, he sings that he's not a real doctor, but he is a real worm. Played with in Walking My Cat Named Dog, a cover of a folk-rock song by Norma Tanega. The British band Fire has a song called "Father's Name was Da. The White Stripes song "The Hardest Button to Button" have lyrics that mention the birth of a baby boy that is named "Baby". Played with, in several various ways, in the song "The Name Of My Frog" by Bryant Oden: I have a bunny named Bunny and a rat named Rat A bird named Bird and a cat named Cat A ferret named Ferret and.
