The Cape Verdean Blues is an album by a jazz quintet led by pianist Horace Silver. The quintet is augmented on the last three tracks on the album by trombonist . Johnson, with whom Silver had been eager to work for some time. The album was inspired by Silver's father, John Tavares Silva, who was born in Cape Verde. The Cape Verdean Blues" followed Song for My Father as another album by Horace Silver that was inspired by his father, who hailed from the island nation of Cape Verde. After the success of Song for My Father and its hit title cut, Horace Silver was moved to pay further tribute to his dad, not to mention connect with some of his roots. J. Johnson's Jazz Quintets is a studio album by jazz trombonist J. J. Johnson, released by Savoy Records, containing material from three different recording sessions in 1946, 1947 and 1949. Material from the first two sessions had been previously released on two Savoy EPs, New Trends In Jazz, Vol. 11 (Savoy XP 8047) and Birth of Bop, Vol. 3 (Savoy XP 8086). The album was re-issued on CD in 1992, and again in 1994 on the Savoy Jazz label. This is the track list for the CD re-issue. All songs were written by J. Johnson, except where noted.
