Torn, Levin, and Bruford had previously been a quartet, along with trumpeter Mark Isham, for Torn's 1987 studio album Cloud About Mercury (bassist Mick Karn replaced Levin for the tour). Following on from the Stick Man album, Levin joined up with fellow player Michael Bernier and King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto to form the group Stick Men.
