Castrovalva are an English noise rock band, formed in 2007 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Originally a duo of Daniel Brader (drums) and Anthony Wright (bass guitar), they expanded to a trio with the addition of Leemun Smith (vocals) in 2009. Smith had previously guested on the band's self-titled debut album and provided the cover art. The band is named after the .  . The audio equivalent of drunken headspins, Castrovalva have come back to taunt us with just under thirty minutes of chaotic electro rock which sounds like it was recorded by demented imps who have looted an instrument store. In short, it’s bloody brilliant. Gone are the heavy flirtations with hip hop which permeated their 2010 release ‘We are A Unit’, and in its place are a collection of deceivingly well-structured tracks which serve to entertain, perplex and delight in equal measure. Fuzz heavy basslines and Sci fi guitar screeching are accompanied by frantically delivered lyrics which touch upon subjects such as friends, family, fatherhood and broken relationships.
