Harry Nilsson was a very interesting & super talented man. In one infamous bar hopping evening Harry Nilsson & John Lennon got into a bar fight literally back to back fighting the local tough guys! This incident was amazingly captured on a photograph. 3 people found this helpful. What this package does not include, unfortunately, is his 1967 debut album Pandemonium Shadow Show, his 1970 album Nilsson Sings Newman (in which he pays loving tribute to another then-ascendent and underappreciated talent, the one and only Randy Newman), and the soundtracks to Otto Preminger's film "Skidoo" (which, in fairness, is only partly Nilsson material) and the cartoon "The Point!"

Harry Nilsson: American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. His work is characterized by pioneering vocal overdub experiments, returns to the Great American Songbook, and fusions of Caribbean sounds. A tenor with a 3½ octave range, Nilsson was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours. The craft of his songs and the defiant attitude he projected remains a touchstone for later generations of indie rock musicians.
Ironically, one of Nilsson's finer works is 'Nilsson Sings Newman', where Harry's wonderful voice only adds to the magic of Newman's songs. This album ends with a Newman tune. Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear' concludes the album on an upbeat jazzy tempo. The nostalgic melodies, along with the almost tin-type picture of 'Harry' build a charming, cohesive theme to the album. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.
