Dropping on april 6th 2018, Dr. Octagon’s long awaited album, Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation has proven able to clear out the bad taste that 2006’s The Return of Dr. Octagon left in fans' mouths. Boasting the intial lineup of Kool Keith, Dan The Automator and DJ Q-Bert, the album has been described as the real sophomore followup to Octagon’s original debut. Moosebumps‘ first single, Octagon Octagon, was released on the 15th of Feburary 2018, to accompany the album’s announcement

Moosebumps: an exploration into modern day horripilation. Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation is the incredible follow up album to the classic, critically acclaimed 1996 Dr. Octagonecologyst, the inspired musical collaboration of legendary artists/producers Dan 'The Automator', MC Kool Keith & turntablist DJ Q-Bert. For the first time in 22 years Moosebumps reunites the dream team in studio & on stage!

The original Dr. Octagon album from 1996 (which was re-released a year later as Dr. Octagonecologyst) was a wholly unexpected success - it felt like an absurdist experiment, with Keith pursuing preposterous (and often prurient) prose over a mad scientist selection of Automator beats as likely to crib from Bartok and Pachelbel as it was Young Holt Unlimited and Rufus Thomas. Over the years, Keith reused the Dr. Octagon moniker on several releases, but the new Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation is the first Dr. Octagon project to reunite him with Dan since their original outing. By any measure, 22 years is a long time to wait between albums, yet Keith and Dan pick up right where they left off, weird and warped as ever. It's not impolite to describe Dr. Octagon, then and now, as an acquired taste.

It’s no secret that Kool Keith’s prodigious output over the last 30 years has been hit-and-miss in terms of quality, but Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation is up there with the best of his work. What was missing on the second Dr. Octagon album – and one of the reasons Dr. Octagonecologyst is the classic that it is – is back here: the input of producer Dan The Automator and the cuts of DJ Q-Bert

Talk about Dr. Octagon - Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation

Saberdragon
Moosebumps was an unexpected release last year and one i looked forward to when it dropped. obviously a one take thing (Keith again, seems to have parted ways with DTA after this came out) After years of Dan trying to replicate the success with the sensual and great Lovage/Handsome boy modelling school and the also brilliant sci-fi rap stylings of Deltron 3030, this album is a nice but not better follow up to Dr. Octagoncologyst, but certainly better than the phoned-in "return of dr. octagon". on the music side Keith is as absurd as ever, this time not even to bother to rhyme and throw out weird sentences about just everything, and Q-bert never misses a beat. The beats aren't as hot as the first album and the later released remix LP is better, as it fleshes them out a lot more. some of the best tracks are the almost blue flowers sounding Operation Zero, the almost rap metal chug of Kama Sutra and the downright brilliant Polka dots. the 4th instalment of Bear Witness is a real letdown though, as the last 3 have been so brilliant. Now, if we can only get a Deltron meets Octagon part 2....

I am actually preferring the instrumentals album at the mo...very Dr. Octagon in style, awesome stuff.
Dakora
The trio doesn't disappoint. I get goosebumps when I listen to Moosebumps.

Flying waterbed is nice tune, the vocals by Paul banks have a 60s psyche feel and the track has a progressive feel, progressive hip hop is that a new genre...ooops hate to pigeion hole tunes...The track makes me think of Edan...Overall the album is a good return to what I think Kool Keith does best at and that is beng Dr. Octagon
BoberMod
Fantastic album. Even better than the first Octagon album imho.... one of Kool Keith's finest moments since the days of Poppa Large, and awesome juicy production by the Automator.
