From what I understand, Sarah Connor used to make albums in English, and this is her first album in her mother tongue (Muttersprache, hence the title). Maybe it's German pop with American influences instead of accordions. A knowledge of German obviously makes the album more enjoyable. Still, the consensus among friends that have heard it is "We don't know what it is, but we like it. She can really sing.
