Don’t wanna be selfish, selfish Thinking about mine and nobody else’s And you got me begging, begging For your forgiveness I hope that you get it. Word to my brother To the one who understand like no other I’m so insecure about dissapointing I wonder How I let you down another time and another (and another) Word to my family To the only ones I think that could stand me Same ones that I love give me life up for any Ones I make no time

My big beef in all of this has to do with the ways in which women in these cases have been characterized. Not having children is often described as selfish. It’s right in the first paragraph of that Newsweek story. And the word comes up repeatedly in articles of this nature - often from women themselves. Comb through the newspaper features and you’ll find the inevitable quote by some career-minded thirtysomething saying something like, Omigod no, I’m way too selfish
Selfish Love" is a song by English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware. People are selfish in the world because they can make their life better only by taking care of themselves and enjoying the fruit of their labour rather than sharing it with the world. However, most people are free-riders who expect others to be selfless so that they enjoy the fruits of other’s labour without any hard work. People with more resources tend to be more altruistic, but there are limits to their altruism, because they got their resources through some sort of privilege. Unless they’re exceptional empaths, they have to go into denial about where their privilege comes from-and who it causes to suffer-at least part of the time. The fact that many of these folks still give to charities and volunteer their time shows that they’re not entirely selfish. They are still pulled towards (and simultaneously away from) altruism.
The Fall has been one of the most loved, talked-about post-punk bands throughout its thirty-year run as a forum for Mark E. Smith's sarcasm and bile, but the longevity and prolific nature that's helped fuel their improbable run is also the very thing that makes them so imposing for new listeners. Two dozen studio albums alone is a bewildering assortment, forget all the live albums, EPs, singles, compilations, boxed sets, and bootlegs that are floating around. All three albums, 1990's Extricate, 1991's Shift-Work, and 1992's Code: Selfish, have finally received the reissue treatment, complete with obligatory bonus discs- more on those later- and remastering. I can't even remember what I thought at the time, but it wasn't until college that I approached the band on my own, taking the more common route through This Nation's Saving Grace and the 458489 A-Sides compilation.
