Modern Life Is Rubbish is the second studio album by the English rock band Blur, released on 10 May 1993. Although their debut album Leisure (1991) had been commercially successful, Blur faced a severe media backlash soon after its release, and fell out of public favour. After the group returned from an unsuccessful tour of the United States, poorly received live performances and the rising popularity of rival band Suede further diminished Blur's status in the UK.

Modern Life Is Rubbish is the second album by English alternative rock band Blur, released in May 1993.

Country: UK & Europe.

Modern Life Is Rubbish, as the opening salvo in Blur's Britpop trilogy, is steeped in this nostalgia. There was a double meaning to the choice of title - as Damon Albarn told NME at the time of its release, he believed that there was nothing new to say: "Modern life is the rubbish of the past. We all live on the rubbish: it dictates our thoughts. And because it's all built up over such a long time, there's no necessity for originality anymore. As it was, Modern Life Is Rubbish set the template for the rest of Blur's Britpop 90s. Setting fire to the subtlety that still existed across this album, they mastered cartoonish pop songs that crushed the charts. The rowdy songs are just flatter rehashes of the better rowdy songs on Modern Life.

Blur's debut album suffered from a lot of bad timing, coming on the trail end of Madchester and the begining of grunge. So Blur went back to the studio ready to reinvent themselves with their sophomore effort "Modern Life is Rubbish" (the title is taken from some London graffiti Albarn saw). The record is full of life and Damon Albarn spins off contemporary satires that are both clever and humerous

Expanded across two discs, the LP format of the Modern Life Is Rubbish remaster is cut on heavyweight 180 gram, audiophile vinyl and housed in a replica of the original sleeve artwork.

Track 7: "Chemical World" is actually the demo version on this release as the U.S. record label preferred this to the finished Stephen Street produced final version. This is also similar to the "reworked" version on CD2 of the UK single edition, but with a slightly different mix on the drums and the intro is slightly shorter. It's also one second shorter than that version.

Tracks 18 & 19 are given as tracks 68 & 69 under the CD tray, there are blank tracks in-between 18-66 running at 4 seconds each. 67 is 8 seconds long.
