Bones marks the fourth album released by Son Lux and the first for them on Glassnote records. This album also marks two new additions to what was once Ryan Lott working on his own - Ian Chang (drums) and Rafiq Bhatia (guitar). Musically, the album features a lot of heavier influences than Ryan's previous albums though it always maintains Son Lux's equilibrium between their two main influences: Electronic and Rock music.

Son Lux is an American experimental band. Originally the solo project and moniker of founding member Ryan Lott, the band's first three albums, At War with Walls & Mazes, We Are Rising and Lanterns shaped the band's unique sound through post-rock and electronica influences. With the release of their fourth studio album, Bones, in 2015, Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang joined Son Lux, transforming the project into a three-piece band.

Son Lux’s avant-pop has always leaned more heavily on avant than pop, and Bones is probably too skittery for a breakout commercial hit (though Change is Everything could be a dark horse). Given the album’s staccato beats, bronchitis vocals, strings that may not be strings, flutes that probably aren’t flutes, unexpected blasts of horn-like sounds that couldn’t possibly be horns, it’s not an album you can sing along to from front to back, and given the subject matter, it probably shouldn’t be.

Son Lux was previously the moniker of Ryan Lott, but he fleshed out the project into a trio for new album Bones, which is out this summer. We ve already heard the feverish, synth-charged Change Is Everything and seen its video.
