No Man's Land" (also known as "The Green Fields of France" or "Willie McBride") is a song written in 1976 by Scottish folk singer-songwriter Eric Bogle, reflecting on the grave of a young man who died in World War I. Its chorus refers to two famous pieces of military music, "The Last Post" and "The Flowers of the Forest".

the sun shining down on these green fields of france the warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance the trenches have vanished long under the plow no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now but here in this graveyard that's still no man's land the countless white crosses in mute witness stand till man's blind indifference to. his fellow man and a whole generation were butchered and damned.

The sun now shines o'er the green fields of France There's a warm summer breeze that makes the red poppies dance And look how the sun shines from under the clouds There's no gas, no barbed wire, there's no gun firing now But here in this graveyard it's still No Man's Land The countless white. crosses stand mute in the sand To man's blind indifference to his fellow man To a whole generation that were butchered and damned
