New Conception Of Jazz is a music studio album recording by BUGGE WESSELTOFT (Jazz ive Rock) released in 1996 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Very interesting album in musicological sense: Bugge started his career as jazz pianist, played with Jan Garbarek and some more Norwegians, associated with ECM Records label, but than founded his own record label and became one of founders of n. azz.
Over the course of these albums, Wesseltoft gradually expanded the purview of his NCOJ. As Wesseltoft proved in concert with bassist Arild Andersen in Stavanger, Norway in May, 2008, his harmonic concept is as sophisticated as any in jazz and, by taking the music ever so slightly out, creates a compelling tension and release while, at the same time, keeping the music wholly approachable.
Bugge Wesseltoft (born February 1, 1964) is a Norwegian jazz musician, pianist, composer and producer. Played in the band New Conception of Jazz, but he is only doing solo concerts now. He has his own label named Jazzland Records. In the 1990s, Bugge has made a transition from Nordic jazz traditions exemplified by the ECM record label to a style sometimes referred to as "future jazz" or nu jazz. He has played with Jan Garbarek.
