The Third Eye Foundation - Wake the Dead flac album

The Third Eye Foundation captures you, locks you into its universe and keeps you there. It is no longer a question of finding a balance between dark shadows and light. Eight years ago already, The Dark already portrayed this state of affairs. Today, Wake The Dead is banging the last nails into the boards that make up the barricades. If you want to wake the dead, you have to get into the right shape and frame of mind. In a way, Wake The Dead is an album without beginning or end. It's a journey that never really ends like an infinite but unstable loop that lets itself be invaded by the thousand details revealed with each listen. Its melodic variations instil themselves without us realizing and then progressively change our perception of the work as might a story that seems to repeat itself but in reality is never really the same. This means the album could only be instrumental.

Controlled Demolition" has an entirely accurate title, as it contains the most scattered, aggressive drumming and abrasive distortion on the album, but it manages to float along peacefully with the help of some wistful strings. Wake the Dead seems like it might at least partially reference the long gap between the previous 3EF release, itself a decade removed from the project's prior full-length, but Elliott only seems to revive the moniker when necessary, and this is certainly a crucial addition to his discography.

Matt Elliott is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter, originally from Bristol, England and now based in France, who plays dark folk music. He also produced and recorded electronic music under the name The Third Eye Foundation. Elliott started recording with the band Linda's Strange Vacation, which included Kate Wright (Movietone) and Rachel Brook (Movietone/Flying Saucer Attack), around the time Wright and Brook formed Movietone, and Brook and Dave Pearce formed Flying Saucer Attack

Returning to his Third Eye Foundation project after eight years, Matt Elliott (otherwise known for his downcast singer/songwriter material) paints another brilliant, devastating portrait of a life plagued by dread and fear. While just as eerie and haunting as anything else he's done, Wake the Dead initially feels a bit less claustrophobic, as the clattering, hyper-speed drum'n'bass breakbeats found on earlier releases are replaced by slow, creeping dub rhythms.

Featuring silkscreened cover and gold coloured vinyl, the vinyl is released 30th March 2018.
