The Art of Conversation is a studio album by English jazz bassist Dave Holland and American jazz pianist Kenny Barron. The record was released via the Impulse! Records label on October 14, 2014. The album contains 10 compositions: a mix of jazz standards and original tunes. The Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) recognized the record as the Record of the Year 2014.

This album is a natural for Holland and Barron because both have proven themselves adept at the duo format -Barron with bassist Buster Williams, saxman Stan Getz (People Time, 1992) and violinist Regina Carter among others, and Holland in duets with guitarist Derek Bailey, bassist Barre Phillips, sax player Sam Rivers and pianist and vibes player Karl Berger (All Kinds of Time, 1976, a very good album), saxman Steve Coleman, and others. While not an essential album, The Art of Conversation is an exceptional album that will give pleasure to the most discriminating listener while not alienating the uninitiated. 27 people found this helpful.

Conversation is the only studio album by Long Beach hip hop duo the Twinz. It was released on August 22, 1995 through Def Jam Recordings and was almost entirely produced by Warren G. Conversation found decent success on the Billboard charts, peaking at No. 36 on the Billboard 200 and No. 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Two singles were released from the album, "Round & Round" and "Eastside LB". All tracks produced by Warren G except for track which was produced by Soopafly.

Holland and Barron have also recorded together before as part of a trio with drummer Daniel Humair on Barron's 1985 album, Scratch. The key word here is "listening. Besides being gifted, sure footed players in their own right-I've run out of superlatives when it comes to describing Barron's playing-both reveal themselves here to be careful, unhurried listeners to the others playing. Their subsequent responses and intertwining make for a supremely thoughtful and refined dialogue.

The Art of Conversation marks the first time bassist/composer Dave Holland and pianist/composer Kenny Barron have recorded their duo performances. These titans began touring together throughout Europe and the United States in 2012 and this album reflects two years of Holland and Barron finessing their empathy, chemistry and repertoire. Out of an expansive body of work that they’ve cultivated, The Art of Conversation offers 10 compositions of originals and standards that exemplify their individual and combined musical ingenuity

The Art Of Conversation. This 2014 Impulse album is excellent. And as a Keith Jarrett fan it pains me to admit that this collaboration is better to my ears than both the recent Jarrett, Charlie Haden duo recordings(Jasmine and Last Dance). In Your Arms is an outstanding Dave Holland original with a lot of intensity. Basically, this album really never becomes boring, but it is like to smart people having an intelligent conversation, the title is spot-on. You can get it here (Qobuz) and here (HDTracks).
