Killing Time is the debut album by American experimental rock band Massacre. It was released in September 1981, through record label Celluloid. It consists of a compilation of recordings made at Martin Bisi's OAO studio in Brooklyn, New York in June 1981, and live recordings taken from their April 1981 Paris concerts. The group disbanded shortly after, eventually reforming in 1998 with Charles Hayward replacing Maher on drums and further recording three more albums. Killing Time was generally well received by critics. 1 Critical reception. Killing Time was re-issued on RecRec Music in 1993 with six extra tracks, and on Fred Records in 2005 with eight extra tracks, including a cover of ". The Fred re-issue is a re-mastered copy of the 1982 Japanese release on Recommended Records Japan.

In contrast to previous CD and LP versions, the Killing Time LP cuts are heard here as originally intended, at the correct speed and pitch and without added reverb. Tracks 1, 7 and 14 to 19 are Bonus Tracks, not present on original LP (Massacre (2) - Killing Time). Tracks 17 & 19 are previously unreleased. Tracks 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, 17 & 19 recorded live April 1981 at 24 Rue Dunois, Paris.

Massacre was founded in 1980 in New York City by guitarist Fred Frith, bassist Bill Laswell and drummer Fred Maher as an improvising and experimental rock band. They performed live for just over a year and recorded a studio album, Killing Time (1981). Frith and Laswell reformed Massacre in 1998 with drummer Charles Hayward, and released four more albums, Funny Valentine (1998), Meltdown (2001), Lonely Heart (2007) and Love Me Tender (2013).

It's difficult to imagine anyone with a taste for unusual rock & roll not being seduced by this rough gem of an album. Massacre reunited, though with a different drummer, in 1998 to record My Funny Valentine on the Tzadik label.
