Welcome to Wherever You Are is the eighth album by the Australian rock band INXS, which was released on 3 August 1992.

From the start of the album, it's clear that INXS are out to confuse the standard perceptions of the band; the first instrument on the album is an Eastern-flavored horn. Special recording effects and exotic rhythms and sounds are abundant on the album. Evidently, the pop audience didn't care about INXS anymore, since nobody bought the album. And that is a shame, since it is one of their strongest.

Having said that, INXS did change their approach on this album. Oddly, it is both harder and softer than their previous work. All Around" and "Heaven Sent" show the band moving in a more gritty direction. Beautiful Girl" on the other hand, is a delicate, piano driven, maudlin ballad that tugs at the heartstrings. While 1990's album "X" had strong singles, it lacked the overall consistency of "Kick. But "Welcome To Wherever You Are" was in many ways the opposite of "X" in that there are, upon one's first listen, no immediate pop singles that are ready to instantly burn up the radio. But there is not a bad song to be found on the entire album, although it does lose steam towards the end. This was one of the best albums released in 1992, by any band in any genre.
