At first impression coming off as a Pink Floyd tribute circa 'Wish You Were Here,' it wasn't long before Crippled Black Phoenix's third studio album 'I, Vigilante' showed a much wider range than what I expected at the start of my first listen.

Crippled Black Phoenix is a rock group from the United Kingdom centred around the t Justin Greaves. Several musicians have contributed to Crippled Black Phoenix's albums and played with them during their live shows. The band have released nine studio albums, one mini album, two EPs and a number of singles. Members of the band used to play in other bands (including Iron Monkey, Gonga, Mogwai, Electric Wizard, Hearts of Black Science and others).

The ethereal qualities that Crippled Black Phoenix have in their music make this cover better than the original in my eyes. There is also a hidden track called Burning Bridges, which is altogether different from the songs that transpire before it. It almost sounds like the theme song to a 70’s TV show, but it’s still really good. Take We Forgotten Who We Are, a thundering storm which lasts 11 minutes and powers through sections of head-nodding chug guitars to a sunrise of happy melody and back: just when the noise is getting too much they rein it back with, of all things, a squealing guitar solo before dropping into the bittersweet Fantastic Justice.
