As for Birgit Ulher, her best works yet have come out in the form of duets. Both improvisers occasionally revert to the "traditional" vocabulary of their respective instrument (in "Stoff 9" for instance, a rare occasion where "common" trumpet notes are sounded), but they mostly assume each other's role, mimic each other, and otherwise shuffle the cards (and the sounds) to the listener's delight.

Ute Wassermann has developed her own unique vocal techniques. The human voice is extended in many different ways in her work and often plays with all kinds of other sound connotations. This also results in an extensive use of bird whistles, different kinds of resonating objects and prepared loudspeakers. Ute Wassermann, Birgit Ulher Kunststoff (Creative Sources 2004). ute wassermann - Birdtalking - NUR NICHT NUR - Jazz. I had already met Ute Wassermann in a great CD on Creative Sources, Kunststoff, a duo with trumpet player Birgit Ulher; yet, Birdtalking is one of those records that immediately raise all aerials, a top-rank effort in which a single talent is enough to carry the heaviest of weights, namely maintaining the artistic level of almost one hour of music constantly high.

Ute Wassermann - voice. Since the early 1980s Thomas Lehn has been working as an author and performer of contemporary music. She defamiliarises the sound of her voice using bird call whistles, palate whistles, speaker objects or field recordings. She is an integral part of the Berlin and London experimental music scenes, performing regularly with ongoing collaborators like Speak Easy (with Phil Minton, Martin Blume and Thomas Lehn), John Russell, Alexander Kolkowski, Els Vandeweyer, Michael Vorfeld (percussion and lights), Birgit Ulher and others, and is a member of the Berlin-based composer/performer ensemble Les Femmes Savantes.

Ulher originally studied in visual arts, an area which still exerts a strong influence on her music. Collaborations with Ute Wassermann, Lucio Capece, Gino Robair, Bill Hsu, Leonel Kaplan, Christoph Schiller, Heddy Boubaker, Chris Heenan, Gregory Büttner, Forbes Graham and the Stark Bewölkt Quartet (with Michael Maierhof, Heiner Metzger and Gregory Büttner) amongst others. ine O’Dwyer is a harper from Ireland.
