The Punk Syndrome is a film about Finnish punk rock band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. Its original Finnish title is Kovasikajuttu. The film is directed by Jukka Kärkkäinen and J-P Passi and premiered in cinemas in Finland on 4 May 2012. It was pitched at Sheffield Doc/Fest's 2010 MeetMarket prior to completion. The Punk Syndrome follows a Finnish punk rock band whose members all are developmentally disabled, living with autism and Down syndrome.

Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. Profile: PKN was a Finnish punk band. Founded in 2009, disbanded in 2016. Became the subject of the 2012 documentary "The Punk Syndrome". Most of their releases have been published by small independent labels in Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom. In December 2014 the band signed a record deal with Sony Music Finland. In 2015 they represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Aina Mun Pitää". They competed in the 1st Semi-Final, but didn't qualify for the Grand Final.

Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (Pertti Kurikka’s Name Day) consists of four middle-aged men who are mentally disabled. Their songs, harkening back to the classic punk sound of 1977, tell stories about their lives. Started as a part of a cultural outreach program in 2009, the band went on to take Finland by storm. It also forms the subject of a critically praised documentary film, The Punk Syndrome. Recently they’ve toured in continental Europe and been booked – both band and film – to appear at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (PKN, Finnish for "Pertti Kurikka's name days") were a Finnish punk rock band, formed in 2009 in a charity workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (Pertti Kurikka’s Name Day) is a punk band that was formed in 2009 in a culture workshop arranged by Lyhty, a nonprofit organization. Lyhty provides housing and education services as well as workshops for adults with intellectual disabilities. The band members, Pertti, Kari, Toni and Sami, are mentally handicapped and they play their music with a lot of attitude and pride. Their songs are about the problems in society as well as about things that they face in their everyday life: unpleasant pedicures and the misery of living in a group home

The band "Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät," also known as PKN, won the preliminary round in Finland against eight opponents by getting 3. percent of the vote. People recognize me on the street and in the pub. They say they're proud that we are going to Austria," says singer Kari Aalto. They already released 10 EPs and an album of their greatest hits. The 2012 documentary "Punk Syndrome" followed the band as it rose from total obscurity to become a small phenomenon which would allow them to travel outside of Finland.
