There is a definitive strength in the vernacular of The Coathangers' songwriting. Anyone who has witnessed their live show would likely confirm the long-ago founded rumor that the band brings the party. to a greater degree, whether performing live or on record, is a beautiful exhaustion: a feeling both empty and full, like at the end of intense physical activity when your body feels melted yet brimming with energy.

Scramble is the second album by Atlanta-based indie rock group The Coathangers. It was released on April 7, 2009 on Suicide Squeeze Records.

The Coathangers’ eponymous 2007 album was a rowdy, ramshackle, and infectious debut. The album’s intoxicating revelry gained traction outside of Georgia, eventually leading to a record deal with Seattle’s Suicide Squeeze Records and the band’s first forays into national touring.

The Coathangers keep the back-alley post-punk party going strong on a scratchy, shrieky, foul-mouthed sophomore album, Scramble, their first for Seattle-based Suicide Squeeze. The politics aren't, even though technically everything- from their beyond Fucked Up name to their overall fuck-you stance- is kind of political. Put together enough novelty hits, and you have a pretty solid album. If off-kilter percussion can't quite overcome the whispery false ending on "Pussywillow", or "Time Passing" gets a little lost up its own indecipherable sci-fi squall, there's always the scuzzy pink frost of "Toomerhead" (he ain't an asshole, he's just sick), or the get-off-my-back hoarseness of "Bury Me".

Although Atlanta's Coathangers are still in their relative infancy, the all-grrl punk quartet has shown remarkable growth from their 2007 gritty self-titled debut album. However, their sophomore release, SCRAMBLE, retains the group's penchant for rough, lo-fi recording; their frantic punk roots are still evident on tracks like "Bury Me" and "Killdozer. SCRAMBLE is an ideal offering for those feeling nostalgic for the grit and raw energy of early '90s riot grrl groups.

Talk about The Coathangers - Scramble

greed style
Just ordered from Suicide Squeeze and received a baby blue marbled vinyl. Does anyone know the pressing run that they did on these?
Abuseyourdna
I too have the baby blue vinyl - purchased it at their show last month (July 2012) in Houston

If it's anything like the Larceny & Old Lace LP, they did a limited run on mixed colors. I'm not sure though as my copy of Scramble is on pale yellow vinyl that has a slight marbled pattern.
Olwado
Wow mines the yellow marble version! I had no idea it came in blue too....maybe you got the only one Its a great record. Great quality pressing too! Respect to suicide squeeze!
