Front 242's music moves the body and the intellect with equal efficacy, and this album is definitive of that sound. Patrick Codenys and Daniel Bressanutti brilliantly hold forth with multi-dimensional layers of percussion, noise, keyboards and spoken-word fragments. Gliding over and slashing through this thoughtfully aggressive din are lead singer Jean-Luc DeMeyer's low, ominous vocals. It's not the most dancefloor-friendly disc by any means, but it has a great sense of forward motion and urgency to most of the tracks (although a few insturmentals suffer near the end).

As a major label debut, Tyranny (For You) shows no sign of compromise for greater airplay - it's Front 242 straight up, powerful, pounding, and following its own muse. It's just not quite as spot-for-spot successful as Front by Front, though technically the group sound even more comfortable with sampling and the art of atmospherics. Where it falls apart is the relentless one-note nature of the experience, with only the occasional variety in the beats per minute on tracks

Front 242 is a Belgian electronic music group that came into prominence during the 1980s. Front 242 were formed in 1981 in Aarschot, near Leuven, Belgium, by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen, who wanted to create music and graphic design using emerging electronic tools. The first single, "Principles", was released in 1981
