It is the first album to include a selection of Simon & Garfunkel's best-known songs as well as the biggest hits of Simon's own solo career. The Paul Simon Songbook (1965). This summer, Paul Simon brings his touring career to an end – 54 years after he thought it was over. When Simon and Garfunkel’s 1964 debut sank without a trace, the 24-year-old travelled to England, miserable and dejected, and shrugged out this solo album. Although there are overwrought moments on the duo’s third album (7 O’Clock News/Silent Night is eerily pointed, but barely listenable) there are others of stark, dismal beauty – particularly the yearning ballad Homeward Bound, also written during Simon’s time in England. 8. Still Crazy After All These Years (1975). Hope and dread, Simon once said, that’s the way I see the world.

Here, Paul Simon’s strong voice and conversational lyrics usher us into a brave new musical world where expectations are defied and exceeded, as they were thirty years ago with another masterpiece, Graceland. Stranger to Stranger’s distinctive sonic textures allow the listener to experience Simon’s singular voice with the shock of the new. The album’s visceral and ever-changing musical palette allows us to recall what we have loved about Paul Simon in the past; at the same time we feel passion for this new music that artfully speaks to the good, the bad and the ugly in our jittery world, here.
