Dave Grohl wrote and recorded the entire album himself, apart from a guest guitar spot by Greg Dulli, with the assistance of producer Barrett Jones at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. He claimed that he recorded the album just for fun, describing it as a cathartic experience to recover from the death of Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain.

reDiscover Foo Fighters’ ‘Foo Fighters’. Published on. July 4, 2018. Having heard about the disbanding of Seattle-based rock band Sunny Day Real Estate, Grohl drafted the group’s bass player, Nate Mendel, and drummer, William Goldsmith, as well as Nirvana touring guitarist and former Germs member, Pat Smear to complete the line-up. Like the album release, the tour was also decidedly under the radar, with the band playing a friends loft in Seattle as their first gig.

Apart from not giving the permission to use Nirvana tracks in the advertising industry, Grohl has also stressed out that he doesn't plan on using them with the Foo Fighters either. There's a reason why the Foo Fighters don't blast out Nirvana songs every night - because we have a lot of respect for them. You know, that's hallowed ground. We have to be careful. We have to tread lightly. We have talked about it before, but the opportunity hasn't really come up, or it just hasn't felt right.

Watch Foo Fighters Stage Nirvana Reunion With Joan Jett, Deer Tick's John McCauley at Cal Jam. Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age Honor Tom Petty, Vegas Victims at Cal Jam. The Nirvana players opened with Serve the Servants, joined on vocals and guitar by Deer Tick’s John McCauley, who brought the right edge and force to his voice. The set wisely mixed hits with deeper cuts, embracing Cobain’s noisier side on Scentless Apprentice and knack for a strange pop hook with In Bloom, both sung by McCauley. Several dozen fans’ cell phones were raised to capture the moment. Along with the group’s 2016 album Post Pop Depression, the set was focused almost entirely on Iggy’s two albums produced by David Bowie in the middle-Seventies: Lust for Life and The Idiot. The singer has sometimes included a song or two from these albums at his normal concerts, but it was a rare treat to hear.

The same thing is happening with her that happened with Nirvana in 1991. People say, ‘Is rock dead?’ When I look at someone like Billie Eilish, rock and roll is not close to dead! He’s not wrong. Get one more in there. Now we can’t break up. Imagine grandparents getting a divorce. I’m sure it happens, but you’d be like, ‘Why?’
