Yourself or Someone Like You is the debut studio album by American rock band Matchbox 20, released in 1996. The album features a sound similar to traditional rock sound and post-grunge. The album features themes of adolescence, loneliness, psychological abuse, humiliation, depression, anger, and alcoholism. The album sold several million copies in the . and was certified Diamond, and it was also certified multi-platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand
Mad Season, also known as Mad Season by Matchbox Twenty, is the second studio album from American rock band Matchbox Twenty, released in May 2000. The album was a significant departure from the band's debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, as it moved from a straight rock sound to poppier sounds and experimental rock.
Yourself or Someone Like You turned out to be the standard-bearer for post-alternative rock because it has a '90s sheen in its production, but, for all the world, its core sounds like classic rock. Lead singer/songwriter Rob Thomas adopted some of Eddie Vedder's vocal mannerisms, but they were smoothed out, lacking the angst and pain that were Vedder's hallmark.

Matchbox Twenty rose to international fame with their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), which was certified 12 Platinum (diamond) in the United States and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Their second album, Mad Season, released in 2000, charted in the top three on the Billboard 200 and was certified 4 Platinum in the United States. More Than You Think You Are is the third studio album of the American rock band Matchbox Twenty, released on November 19, 2002. The album debuted at on the Billboard 200 with 178,000 copies sold. Although not as commercially successful as the band's two earlier records, (Yourself or Someone Like You and Mad Season), it had a large radio presence and produced three consecutive singles in the US. It is also their last album with rhythm guitarist Adam Gaynor, who left the band in 2005.
Yourself or Someone Like You sold millions of copies without ever truly dominating the charts – by 1998, it had gone platinum five times; by 2000, ten times. At no time did the record top the charts, but it was always around, a staple of modern rock, adult alternative, and Top 40 radio alike. Matchbox Twenty was omnipresent because they managed to blend the structure and sentiment of '70s arena rock with '90s hard rock, thereby winning a large audience by seeming simultaneously classicist and modern. The album was released in October 1996 to little attention, but Matchbox Twenty continued to tour America, cultivating a fan base. They eventually landed their single Long Day on several influential radio stations, which paved the way for their breakthrough hit, Push. In spring 1997, Push began climbing its way to the top of the modern rock charts, as it received heavy airplay from radio and MTV.
Matchbox Twenty functioned much the same way, picking up at Pearl Jam's fascination for album rock, but deciding to stick to the classic blueprint instead of personalizing it. All of this resulted in a record that is much more straightforward than most alt-rock albums, even if it follows the pattern of a classic '90s album - not just in its production dynamics, but down to the acoustic-based slow number that closes the record. It blends the most familiar elements of the two golden eras of album-oriented rock, finding a balance that is comfortable for mainstream fans of either side. What they didn't realize was that Yourself or Someone Like You wound up being the point where mainstream American rock stopped being willfully eccentric and returned to being unassuming and kind of ordinary. Yourself Or Someone Like. has been added to your Basket. This is matchbox twenty's debut album released in 1996 and I must say I only heard of the band two years ago and am 17 years old. This would be an album expected by a band's 3rd or 4th release but for a debut it's simply amazing! My personal favourites include real world (great opening track for the album), 3AM, Push, Back 2 good, damn & hang - not a bad song on this album, they all could be singles. Rob Thomas is a lyrical genius.
