The Roland Kirk Quartet Meets the Benny Golson Orchestra. Early Roots, The Bethlehem Years. 2017 Original Album plus Bonus Tracks. 2017 Orignal Album plus Bonus Track. Out of the Afternoon. 2017 Original Album plus Bonus Tracks 1956. Compliments of the Mysterious Phantom. New York Jazz, Vol. 10.

Kirk leads the ensemble with his "triple threat" - consisting of a variation of the soprano sax called a manzello; a stritch, which is a variant of the straight alto saxophone; and a slightly modified tenor sax - all of which he could maneuver simultaneously. Although Kirk's performances are exceedingly reserved on this album, there is little doubt of his technical proficiencies. The three sides penned by Kirk are among the most interesting as they allow for a certain degree of openness that is essential when spotlighting his unique talents.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk (August 7, 1935 – December 5, 1977) was an American jazz t who played tenor saxophone, flute, and many other instruments. He was renowned for his onstage vitality, during which virtuoso improvisation was accompanied by comic banter, political ranting, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously. Kirk was born Ronald Theodore Kirk in Columbus, Ohio, where he lived in a neighborhood known as Flytown.
