Sonny Stitt (heard on this LP on alto and tenor) recorded a countless number of albums in his career, so many that he often had trouble recalling them years later. It is doubtful if he remembered this particular record, a loose quartet outing with tenor-saxophonist John Board, organist Edward Buster and drummer Joe Shelton. Their renditions of a few standards and some riffing blues are spirited if not all that essential.

Sonny Stitt – Edward Sonny Stitt was an American jazz saxophonist of the bebop/hard bop idiom. He was one of the best-documented saxophonists of his generation, recording more than 100 albums and he was nicknamed the Lone Wolf by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern, in reference to his relentless touring and devotion to jazz. Stitt was sometimes viewed as a mere Charlie Parker mimic, especially earlier in his career, edward Boatner, Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1971 he also recorded album with Varitone, Just The Way It Was - Live At The Left Bank. Stitts productivity dropped in the 1970s due to alcoholism, Stitt had drank heavily since giving up heroin in the late fifties but the abuse was beginning to take its toll.
