Jazz saxophone player, flautist and composer Barbara Thompson was born July 27th 1944 in Oxford, England. She was educated at Queen's College, London and the Royal College of Music, where she studied clarinet, piano, flute and composition. She was married to drummer Jon Hiseman of Colosseum from 1967 until his death in 2018. Conversely, both works by Frank Reinshagen and Barbara Thompson date from 2002 and Johann Sebastian Bach's A minor Fugue from the WTC dates, as far as anyone can tell, from about 1722. This last named work is included as a "bonus track," so in a sense it doesn't count, but we are left to guess how the remainder represents the twentieth century except in part. Tetraphonics is a well-disciplined and smoothly voiced saxophone quartet, with a great sense of ensemble dynamics and seamless rhythmic security.
