Going for Glory Maddy Prior and The Answers. Spindrift SPIN 104 (LP, UK, 1983). Produced and engineered by Nick Griffiths; Recorded at Bark Studios, London; Mixed at Chapel Studios, Lincolnshire. Deep in the Darkest Night arranged and produced by David A. Stewart Engineered by Jon Bavin and recorded in The Church. SPIN 104 (cass SPIC 104): Maddy Prior - Going for Glory With Steeleye Span, Maddy Prior was a key figure on the British folk scene and helped bring folk music to a deservedly wider audience. She returns with a strong new band, a refreshingly different sound with a tougher rock edge, and more arrestingly new songs and ideas that are likely to surprise many people. Going for Glory contains the single Deep in the Darkest Night which was produced by and features the Eurythmics.

Prior and Kemp raised a family together, touring here and there and recording 1982's Hooked on Winning and Going for Glory as the Maddy Prior Band. Unlike most of Steeleye Span's output throughout the years, her solo albums were focused more intently on original material. This trend continued when they reunited for 1986's Back in Line, which included the Prior/Kemp original "Lanercost.

Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band 1987. Ding Dong Merrily on High. Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band 1987. It Came Upon the Midnight Clear. Following 2000's live album Ballads and Candles, Prior resumed her intensely creative solo run in the studio with Holland and Donockley, first issuing 2001's song cycle Arthur the King, then 2003's Lionhearts. She rejoined Steeleye Span in 2004 after eight years away, and recorded They Called Her Babylon as well as their first Christmas album, Winter.

Maddy Prior's second recording with the Carnival Band (the first being A Tapestry of Carols) is a celebration of hymns by such figures as John Bunyan (1628-1688), Charles Wesley (1707-1788), et a. dating from the year 1700, when they were still not fully legitimate within either the Anglican or nonconformist churches in England. This isn't the wild and woolly sound of Steeleye Span, but something much more studied, coming out of a serious music tradition
