The Immediates was a Manchester post-punk band, performing and recording between 1978 and 1982. The main members were Mike Dunne, Franny Dunne, Andy Connell and Phil Tomlinson with Jane Lancaster sometimes fronting the band live. They were members of the Manchester Musicians' Collective which also included Joy Division, A Certain Ratio and The Frantic Elevators but The Immediates had a sound more influenced by The Ramones, XTC, Talking Heads and Elvis Costello

The Immediates have reached their present state after having settled down in Nantes in 1998 and seen the conspicuous arrival of two new recruits, François and Xavier (ex-Looneys), a buoyant organist and jumpy performer on stage. The sound of the band was then deeply modified with the organ flying high over the beats.

They made a considerable impact on the Irish music scene despite releasing only one album during the span of their association together. The album was In Towers and Clouds (2006). It received primarily positive critical feedback and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year 2006. Alongside their sole album, several extended plays and singles were also released by the band.
