Singing is a significant part of Welsh national identity, and the country is traditionally referred to as "the land of song". This is a modern stereotype based on 19th century conceptions of Nonconformist choral music and 20th century male voice choirs, Eisteddfodau and arena singing, such as sporting events, but Wales has a history of music that has been used as a primary form of communication.

This one sets the mood and theme of the album featuring background noises of a bike being ridden at a fast pace while a bell chimes in the background and out of nowhere the sound of wolves howling in the distance creeps you the fuck out as they get louder and closer. The bike is dropped and it’s rider starts running full pelt but it’s no use, the roar/growl of the pouncing beast is the last thing you hear before the song ‘How Can We Go On‘ begins with a signature SOTY opening style featuring a slow build up that takes us to frontman Dan Marsala’s screaming with the drop into. Story of the Year fans have been waiting seven years for a taste of new music and we’ve finally received it with Wolves. I can safely say as a BIG fan of these boys, it definitely hits the mark and fills the void they’ve left in our lives. Don’t come in expecting a heavy, in your face revamp of the band, instead think about everything the band have done and how far they’ve progressed as musicians and admire their talent when they’re in control of their own music. The album opens to its namesake, a 52-second video-game soundtrack-worthy introduction that presents a clock chiming as someone bicycles, out of breath, then runs from a pack of howling wolves. This moves into the proper first track, How Can We Go On, a gritty but infectiously anthemic rocker that kicks in and evaporates time; and Story of the Year sounds as though not a day has passed since 2002’s Page Avenue debut. Wolves is a personal and reflective collection that sees the band delving deeper than they have before into the roller-coaster of life. For die-hard fans of SOTY, it does not disappoint; while for Page Avenue-era holdouts, the album is also a positive note to sing. In truth, Wolves sees Story Of The Year sounding more Good Charlotte 2016 than The Used 2002.
