Secrets of the Beehive" is probably one of David Sylvian�s least experimental albums, so I don�t listen to the album to be challenged or to experience progressive details, which is sometimes the case with his other releases. The production is warm and pleasant. A real treat to my ears and it suits the music perfectly.

Gone to Earth is the third full-length solo album by David Sylvian, released in 1986. The album is a two-record set featuring one record of experimental rock songs with vocals and one consisting entirely of ambient instrumental tracks. Guest artists include Robert Fripp (who co-wrote three songs) and Bill Nelson (who co-wrote one song). It was recorded in part at The Manor Studios in Oxfordshire, England, with producer Steve Nye. The album peaked at n. 4.

David Sylvian’s first four solo albums, newly reissued on vinyl, exude an intense but ambiguous loneliness. If Gone to Earth feels like a labored portrait of the artist, then its follow-up was made on instinct. Released just a year later, Sylvian’s masterpiece, Secrets of the Beehive, arrived quickly. Each track was written in one sitting, he has noted. Sakamoto’s string arrangements appear mostly just to vanish, and Sylvian sings from behind acoustic guitar or a piano.
