His first release, Deep Throat, put his imprint on the decks of DJs around the globe, but the real breakthrough came with 2005’s EP, The Whistler/Who’s Afraid of Detroit?. This cemented Claude’s reputation as a producer to be reckoned with. Since then, VonStroke has released three original albums, started a collaborative project with Chicago’s Green Velvet and remixed everyone from Rihanna to the Chemical Brothers. Today, the label continues to surprise and innovate in the underground scene, releasing an enigmatic combination of house, funk, dirty-bass and electronica. Crenshaw pushed his musical boundaries even further in 2016 by releasing an experimental hip-hop album under his own name, drawing inspiration from legends like J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest to fuse his old-school hip-hop roots with beats straight out of the future.

Claude VonStroke - Raw Nerve. His first release, 'Deep Throat' was a hit, putting his imprint on the decks of DJs around the globe. But the real breakthrough came with double-header ‘The Whistler/Who’s Afraid of Detroit?. Since then, VonStroke has released three original artist albums, a remix album, and several high profile mix compilations. Highlights include a collaboration with the legendary P-Funk bassist Bootsy Collins.

After VonStroke's 2006 debut album, Beware of the Bird, he continued to release a slew of almost criminally catchy hits, including "The Whistler" and "Who's Afraid of Detroit?" After recording a mix for London's vaunted Fabric club, he followed up with his second album, Bird Brain, in late 2009. Focusing their efforts on a European public, VonStroke and dirtybird jumped from underdogs to hometown heroes when the Bay Area got wind of their successes in Berlin's dirtiest discos.

Its not just you. The rythem hits me, like no other songs before. This growling groove still haunts its way into my livesets even though the song is old and too so well known, that you cant surprice the croud with it anymore. But Im still searchin to find a track as deep, dark and druggie as this dirty bird. It makes you wanna have all vinyls dirty bird label has ever released. If someone knows where to find a simular track, let me know.

Is it just me that's been obsessed with this track in both incarnations for the past year and a half? I don't think so considering it's been repressed god knows how many times, and has been re-licenced to a French label. But who's surprised? The Original slices a deep growling voice into a catchy hook with a swinging tech-house beat, and then John Tejada pulls out the acid for a massive soujourn through synth lines and round bass hits. Two thumbs up.
