A home boy-these days it's often shortened as "homie"-is someone whom you trust, who will help you when you're in trouble. It is also an expression rooted in African American culture, an amiable and even approving reference to Obama's race. A "homeboy," in fact, can be someone that is so close to a person that he is considered as a brother-though I mean "brother" in the traditional literal sense of a sibling, not as it is more broadly used in some contexts.
