Sounding like an American Donovan, Paul Parrish burst onto the scene in 1968 with this ambitiously produced gem of a record filled with psychedelic strings, flutes, tympani, and sunshine dipped effects. Wide-eyed rainbow-colored imagery abounds. THE FOREST OF MY MIND was produced in Detroit in 1968 by Clay McMurray, who is best known for producing Spyder Turner's rendition of BB King's 'Stand By Me,' and Gladys Knight & the Pip's 'If I Were Your Woman. the (mostly) R&B producer made one of the finest psychedelic pop records ever. 13. Walking in the Forest (Of My Mind) (Mono 45). 14. The White Birds (Return to Warm Seas) (Mono 45). Product details. I love his album Songs, but was disappointed with this. Maybe it's just my taste.
The Forest of My Mind, recorded at Tera Shirma Studios, may be one of the least Detroit-esque albums to come out of the Motor City as it by and large steered clear of R&B. The latter, the album’s closing track, could have been an exciting choice had Coffey and co. attempted to rearrange it into the same pop-psych style as the rest of Forest. As recorded, though, the track feels out of place, with a more straightforward R&B rhythm chart than anything else on the album.
well there's a 1971 lp as Paul Parrish (allways) called "Songs" on WB label. He released 3 lps all solo and 2 with RenToppano. haha that didnt make shit, jesus sorry,im so very sorry. If a giraffe plays the harpsicord in the forest of my mind does anyone hear it? 7 years назад. Great music, great artist; kinda what the music nowadays lacking completely: innovation.
Michigan native Paul Parrish began singing in Detroit coffeehouses and absorbed many of the better influences of the British Invasion. Vocally, he’s close to Donovan’s gentleness, while lyrically he was influenced by early psychedelia, crafting attractive songs that stand among the better efforts of the era. Meanwhile, Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey’s arrangements for this 1968 album evoke Beatles-like experimentation by using lush string and flute lines to colour the material in ways that Parrish probably never envisaged . This reissue adds two mono mixes of Walking In The Forest (Of My Mind) and The White Birds (Return To The Warm Seas), restore equilibrium after the jarring Motown cover.
