Saafron is an alias of Dakim Saadiq, a Detroit-via-Los Angeles experimental beatmaker. He was one of the first signings to Matthewdavid's Leaving Records, and his fractured, abstract sample constructions have earned praise from . beat scene regulars such as Flying Lotus and Ras G. He had released numerous tapes, 7" EPs, and CD-Rs as Dakim or Dak since the late 2000s, but his 2016 album Reishi (produced under the Saafron moniker). was his first vinyl full-length. The album sounded a bit clearer than his lo-fi beat tapes, with heavier bass and a wider sonic range.
