Placebo is the debut studio album by English alternative rock band Placebo. It was released on 17 July 1996 by record label Virgin. It is the only album recorded with drummer Robert Schultzberg before his departure from the group. The album was a commercial success in the UK, reaching number 5 in the UK Albums Chart. It spawned five singles, including "Nancy Boy" and "36 Degrees".

I love Placebo, and even though their next album "Without You I'm Nothing" is better and more varied than this one, I love their debut. However, this remastering is another sad victim of The Loudness Wars. It's compressed to a brick-wall of LOUD LOUD LOUD. smart lyrics, great guitars, great drums, hook laden, alternately slow burning/blazing melodies. which gives them staying power.

I've never had a problem with ‘Pure Morning’ musically, but you have to understand that we wrote it during a B-sides session once the album was finished. It was never intended to be a single, but the record company heard it and went 'there's your single'. But what of the future of Placebo? Molko reveals that he is currently writing songs for the band’s as yet untitled eighth album, a project that will no doubt become the main focus of their 2018. I'd like the next record to reflect the pain, frustration and violence that we're seeing on the news on a daily basis he says.
