Bomber is the third studio album by the band Motörhead, released on 27 October 1979, on Bronze Records, their second with the label. The album reached on the UK charts at the time. By 1979, Motörhead had been together for four years and had amassed a loyal following in both punk and heavy metal circles. After recording an album for United Artists that the label shelved, the band released its eponymous debut LP in 1977, but it was with 1979's Overkill that the band hit their stride.

One of Motörhead’s best-known songs, the title track of the 1979 album Bomber is, obviously, about a bomber plane bringing death from above, but the bombing also forms a loose metaphor for the sonic assault Motörhead brought to concerts. I was reading Len Deighton’s book Bomber at the time I wrote it. It’s about a bombing raid on Germany when the British hit the wrong town, and it’s what goes on the floor in the air from both sides. It’s a really good book. You should read it. Bomber was the first song I wrote about war. We made a big bomber lighting rig for the tour and we’ve still got i. .

Bomber" is a song by the English heavy metal band Motörhead, recorded and released in 1979 (see 1979 in music). It is the title track to their album Bomber and was released as a single peaking at 34 on the UK singles chart. The single was released in the UK by Bronze Records as a 7" vinyl single with the first 20,000 copies pressed in blue vinyl and thereafter in black. The band promoted its release with an appearance on the BBC TV show Top of the Pops on 3 December.

Motörhead built upon the success of "Overkill" by adopting a sensible "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy on this follow up album, with the songs again built around simple but very effective riffs and characterised by Lemmy's thundering bass and Fast Eddie Clarke's strident guitar sound. On the brilliant "Stone Dead Forever", there's even a clever intro which rivals the majesty of the intro to "Overkill".

On Bomber-tour 1979-1980 Motörhead used a Bomber-scale model on the stage, above the band. The model was many metres long and weighted over 500 kilos. The bomber was stolen on the Iron Fist-tour, but they made up a new in mid 90's. Recording information: Recorded at Roundhouse Recording Studios and Olympic Recording Studios between July 7th and August 31st, 1979.
