Peggy Lee is in fine voice throughout this jazz-flavored set, backed by ensembles arranged by Benny Carter, Billy Byers, Billy May, and Shorty Rogers. The program (which has been expanded from 12 songs to 15 for this reissue) only includes two performances over three minutes in length, so there is not much for the backup bands to do.

Sugar 'n' Spice (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas album). Peggy Lee (born Norma Deloris Egstrom; May 26, 1920 – January 21, 2002) was an American jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, composer and actress, in a career spanning six decades. From her beginning as a vocalist on local radio to singing with Benny Goodman's big band, she forged a sophisticated persona, evolving into a multi-faceted artist and performer. Peggy Lee was born as Norma Deloris Egstrom in Jamestown, North Dakota, the seventh of eight children of her expecting parents, Marvin Olof Egstrom, a station agent for the Midland Continental Railroad, and his wife Selma Amelia (Anderson) Egstrom, on Wednesday, May 26, 1920. Sugar 'n' Spice is an excellent CD of Peggy Lee's beautiful artistry. Peggy sounds great on this album and the sound quality is excellent. Some people may not like the artwork because of that wig she's wearing but I think the artwork is just fine. Overall, Peggy Lee fans can't afford to skip this CD. Peggy sings some pretty incredible songs beyond perfection and this leaves no doubt about her exceptional vocal talents. I also recommend this album for people who like classic pop vocals. 12 people found this helpful.
