Brand Nubian is an American hip hop group from New Rochelle, New York, composed of three emcees: Grand Puba, Sadat X and Lord Jamar, and formerly two DJs: DJ Alamo and DJ Sincere. Its debut album, One for All is one of the most popular and acclaimed alternative hip hop albums of the 1990s, known for socially conscious and political lyrics inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. com placed the group on its list of the 25 Greatest Rap Groups of All Time.

While plenty of MCs who thrived in the early '90s have attempted with great desperation to remain relevant, each member of this crew has remained true to himself, consistently refining the skills without hopelessly retracing old steps. Despite all the changes mainstream rap has gone through during the past several years, Brand Nubian have remained well outside of it all - and they still do here, 15 years on, with a fifth album that will sit proudly next to the previous four. Few will ever refer to this as a classic, though even fewer will ever think of this as a poor showing

Unfortunately, Fire in the Hole fails to invoke any effective nostalgia as it phlegmatically wanders through 12 solid but unexciting tracks. Meanwhile, Lord Jamar made the challenging jump from rapper to inmate on HBO's Oz. As a result, Brand Nubian has been a name without a body and Fire in the Hole fails to capture the synergy that the group once possessed. Where Are You Now" crackles with summery keys and reveals Brand Nubian's vulnerability as they retell of all the women that have done them wrong. Just Don't Learn" projects the desolation and nihilism of the ghetto through Brand Nubian's sobering experiences. Sadat X laments: "I wish I had a dollar for every funeral parlor I been to/ I've been friends to a lot of dead niggas.
