So quite wisely, he wrangles a supporting cast that helps make this a strikingly solid, bold, multi-dimensional follow-up to an acclaimed record. With drummer Mig still on board, Callahan enlists the help of Collapsed Lung bassist Johnny Dawe, who's just as skilled in Jah Wobble-style dub gymnastics as his predecessor. Polly Harvey and Stereolab's Katharine Gifford provide vocals throughout, not so much in the manner of a foil like Fiedler, but more in a background sense. The sound is built on the same rhythmic template as Eva Luna, that being Public Image Lt. s Metal Box.

Moonshake was no grunge band, but were able to climb into that window Cobain had opened. This band used dissononet structres, heavy bass, off kilter horn parts, and a singer that had a pinprick, angry alto. This was made in the mid-1990s, and I am sure the recording is digital, but Moonshake ace that creepy murk that you hear on old horror soundtracks, made before they learned to balance music's volume into film. But they move this to the foreground. Out of their full lengths, this is the most fully orchestrated, with almost free-jazz horns that sit like marbles in Moonshake's viscus arrangments.
