Still the Orchestra Plays - Greatest Hits, Volume 1 & 2 is a greatest hits compilation album by the American heavy metal group Savatage, released in 2010. The title for the compilation was taken from the lyrics in the title track to the band's 1989 release, Gutter Ballet. It was the first release of any kind by the band in almost nine years. The final three tracks on the second disc were brand new acoustic recordings made by Jon Oliva in 2009, featuring him on lead vocals

Gil Evans Orchestra, Gil Evans. The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix. A few years later, Evans explored ten of Hendrix's compositions with his unique 19-piece unit, an orchestra that included two French horns, the tuba of Howard Johnson, three guitars, two basses, two percussionists and such soloists as altoist David Sanborn, trumpeter Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson, Billy Harper on tenor, and guitarists Ryo Kawasaki and John Abercrombie. Evans' arrangements uplift many of Hendrix's more blues-oriented compositions and create a memorable set that is rock-oriented but retains the improvisation and personality of jazz.

The Collected Plays, Vol. 1 book. The publication is also a bit of a hodgepodge as the chronology of works been disrupted (both within and between volumes). The musicals of the ‘60s are the most buttered out among the three book. ot sure why that i. erhaps it took longer to clear the rights to the lyrics, perhaps as better-known works the publisher was hoping to spread out the ‘hits’ so to speak, or perhaps there was some other reaso. r no reason at all.
Vaughan Williams wrote nine symphonies, no two of which are similar. Each displays its own unique mood. His first was A Sea Symphony written between 1903 and 1909 in which he explores the ‘deep waters’ of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. His last, composed between 1957 and 1958 was Symphony No 9, originally inspired by Hardy’s work Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Vaughan Williams did not number his symphonies but designated them with either a name or a key signature.
Many of the plays are heavily violence-laden. Of the lesser-known works in this group, I enjoyed both the play and the film starring Anna Magnani of Williams' beautiful sexually-charged romance, "The Rose Tattoo". After 1961, Williams went into a long period of decline due in part to substance and alcohol abuse and in part to changing public mores and tastes. It is worth pointing out two works not included in this box set that are worth knowing. Williams' 1950 novel "The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone" The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone is among the best of his work and is not included in the LOA set which consists of Williams' plays.
