Isaac Hayes' 1969 solo debut Hot Buttered Soul set a soulful tone for the decade that followed, influencing innumerable artists and turning on a more conventional audience to the genre. Renowned as one of his generation's greatest songwriters and arrangers, Hayes punctuates his creations with hints of r&b, funk, jazz and soul. There's a cd of his greatest hits (Polydor label) that has this song on it. Anway, the "Ultimate Isaac Hayes: Can You Dig It" cd album contains the longer versions of most of his songs. I particularly love the long versions of "I Stand Accused" and the brilliant cover of the Glen Campbell hit "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", the only excellent cover of his song.

Isaac Lee Hayes Jr. (August 20, 1942 – August 10, 2008) was an American singer, songwriter, actor, and producer. Hayes was one of the creative forces behind the Southern soul music label Stax Records, where he served both as an in-house songwriter and as a session musician and record producer, teaming with his partner David Porter during the mid-1960s
